During our trip we visited Castelnaud Bretenoux, a medieval castle that was most recently owned by an ostentatious opera singer. We enjoyed going up the tower and looking at the view. Julien enjoyed the arrow-slits. He kept asking about the dungeons, however, we didn't see any.
On one of our day trips we stopped in a town called Beaulieu, on the river, to get lunchables for a picnic. The bread and strawberry tarts were amazing!
The caves were stunning. Huge caverns with a variety of prehistoric paintings. My favorites were the negative hand prints. The horses were pretty cool too.
We drove two hours to get to Perle Mech, prehistoric caves. The drive alone was quite spectacular with rock cliffs and the Perigord river winding through.
We ate breakfast outside every morning. It was bright and beautiful almost every morning. Usually we had a fairly slow, relaxed start to the day.
Sebastian loved the cows. He would wake up in the morning and say, "cows eat breakfast!"
There was a very nice pool in between the cow field and the ponies. We went swimming everyday. Sebastian loved jumping into our arms. Julien can swim quite well now, so it was fun to play with him in the water.
We did our shopping in the closest town, Meyssac. We went to the farmers market whenever possible and also tried out the various boulangeries and boucheries. Stores closed from 1:00-3:30 so we had to plan our shopping carefully.
Sebastian discovered that every town had grates. He loved putting pebbles down the grates. He was always on the look out for them.

When we were walking down the streets of Curemonte we came across a group of kids collecting snails. This was the highlight of the day for Julien and Sebastian.
On the first day we went to Curemonte, a medieval town that seemed almost untouched by time. 
The boys loved the Japanese garden. They spent hours leaping from rock to rock, making piles of pebbles and stirring the water with the bamboo sticks.
