We just had our two week appointment with our midwife and Sebastian has gained a pound and two ounces! Obviously nursing is working. Sometimes Julien finds it frustrating that Sebastian nurses so much, which is understandable. Sleep hasn't been too bad so far. Sebastian can sleep for three hours at a time, which is great! It was months and months before Julien slept three hours straight. I am hoping this will continue.

Baby land
We are now sincerely in babyland; nursing constantly and frequently seeming as if in a daze.
Julien has been a wonderful big brother so far, although he does act out a little.
The other night he was acting out and had just gotten over tears when I asked him to give me a full body hug :
J: "OK. We give each other all our love"
A: "Right"
J: "You give me all of your love and I give you all of my love"
Then, when I was telling him a bed side story with Sebastian (he wants me to bring Sebastian into bed with him when I tuck him in and tell him a bed time story) he snuggled up to Sebastian
J: "We give Sebastian all our love. You give him all of your love and I give him all of my love"
A: "I give you my love too. Give Sebastian a good night kiss and then give me a kiss."
He gave Sebastian two good night kisses and then started to give me a kiss and stopped himself.
J: "No I'm giving all my love to Sebastian."
A: "You can still give me a kiss"
J: "No"
But as I left he forgot and gave me a kiss. He looked at me for a second and said
J: "That was love for Sebastian. I gave it to you and then you can give it to Sebastian."
A: "OK"
Then last night Julien wanted the whole family in his bed before he got tucked in.
J: "Mommy and me love Sebastian best"
R: "Love isn't a contest. I love Sebastian and I love you"
J: "No, Mommy and me love Sebastian"
A: "I love you too and I love your Daddy"
J: "This is a contest for who loves Sebastian best."
A: "Daddy loves Sebastian too"
J: "No. Daddy loves me!"

Sebastian's Birth
My actual labor for Sebastian's birth was short and intense. On July 15 I woke up at 2:10 a.m. with painful contractions about ten minutes apart. I lay in bed for about half an hour and then started to move around the house. I sat next to our kitty Zeus for a while and used his purrs to help me breathe through the pain. At 4:00 I woke Richard up, or rather my vocalizations woke him up. We called our midwife and Doula at about 5:00, and my water broke soon after. By the time everyone arrived, around 6:00, I was laboring in the pool. At 6:30 I said I felt "pushy," so Richard ran to wake up Julien. 20 minutes later we had a new baby boy!

Quick visit
False Alarm
On Monday, my official due date, we had a false alarm. I had contractions two minutes apart that lasted about a minute long. I could hardly walk, was shaking etc. Tanya told Richard to call the midwife over right away. When she arrived she took one look at me and set up all the equipment. In between contractions she said "It looks like we will have a baby this afternoon!" And then it just slowed down until it practically stopped. She checked me and I was only three and a half centimeters dilated so everyone went home. Since then my contractions have been very slow and minor (in other words not painful).
It was interesting (and emotionally difficult) having a trial run. Julien was very good and was doing his best to give me labor support. We had planned to have Tanya catch the baby, but that can't happen now. Everyone was great, but my body didn't cooperate. I am hoping it will be soon.
Julien got into the birth pool after we realized it wasn't happening.

Tanya
Well, Tanya came and left and still no baby. But we had a wonderful visit. Julien adored her. During her visit Julien became obsessed with national flags, so she and Julien made lots of flags of different countries on colored felt. This obsession was brought on by the World Cup. Now Julien wants to go to Italy. Not only did they win the world cup, they also have roman ruins.
One day we went on a hike at Griffy lake and saw a tiny frog and a snake in a tree.
It was hard to see Tanya go this morning.

World Cup
Julien is currently obsessed with the World Cup. We have been making shirts for the different teams- Ghana, Italy, Ukraine, Portugal, USA, Argentina, England, Germany, and last but not least France, which is what he is wearing in this photo. We have been rooting for France but Julien was rooting for Portugal in the last game (I think because they wear red) and is now rooting for Italy.
