Family Friends

We enjoyed seeing old family friends and relatives. It may be a while before we see some of them again.

Julien was very well behaved all day, but he did get tired by the end.

Madison

This last weekend we went to Madison to see the University of Wisconsin Social Science Building renamed in honor of my grandfather. It was a long drive for such a short trip, but we enjoyed showing off Sebastian and seeing all the relatives.

Red Playdough

Sarah, Iris and Celeste came over for a visit the other day. They have moved back to town after a year in Austin Texas. We are happy to have them back. Celeste and Iris brought Sebastian a baby present- red playdough in the toe of a boot!

Art fair

Labor day weekend we went to the local art fair. Julien was nervous at first. He thought it was going to be like the medieval fair and people would be in costume dress. In other words, he thought it would be scary! (funny that dressing up is his favorite thing, but seeing adults dressed up is scary.) Instead, he had a wonderful time. He had his face painted as a power ranger, and he got a balloon and an ice cream. What could be better.

My friend Susan had a booth selling Maiolica pottery. Her son, Marco, was born on the same day as Julien. Unfortunately, she is moving to Scottland!

Getting bigger!

Sebastian weighs 15 1/2 lbs. He's growing fast! He is also getting more interactive. He loves to smile!

Lake Michigan

On the drive home we stopped at the beach of Lake Michigan to collect rocks, skip stones and nurse. It was beautiful and refreshing.

Rocks

During our trip Julien was obsessed with rocks. Julien gathered all types of rock: from iron ore to rocks smoothed by the lake to pieces of gravel from a parking lot. Of his many rock setups, my favorite were about mining. I love the translucent lady driving the mining truck.

Entrails

Perhaps the most exciting thing on our trip was when we found entrails of a large animal (a duck or perhaps a large rabbit?) on the end of the pier. We believe that a bald eagle caught the animal and then ate it on the pier. Why did we think it was a bald eagle? Because we saw one diving down at the ducks, and there was a very large bird poop next to the entrails.

As for wildlife, we also saw blue herons, sandhill cranes and wild turkeys. Not to mention the chipmunk that got in our van (which we rented for the trip), the mice in our cabin and the bat in Cindy and John's cabin.

Runabout

Do you remember when we went to an antique boat show on our last trip up to the cabin? Well, John went to it again and this time he bought a beautiful old runabout.

Day Trips

We went on several day trips while we were in Wisconsin. We went to the Iron Mountain Iron Mine, although Julien was too scared to go on the tour, so we looked at the rock shop while Cindy and Richard took the tour into the mine. We also went to Escanaba to look at the light house and historical museum, which was quite fun. It was a bit scary carrying Sebastian up the tiny spiral staircase, but it was worth it! And last but not least, we went back to Camp Seven to take the steam train and look at the old logging camp.
